Manuel Bessa doesn't feel the need to explain himself. He has worked at Adalberto for nearly three decades, moves through every sector of the factory every day, and when asked what he does, he says what matters: “I keep things clean”. 

He could say more… but he doesn't need to. The factory says it for him.

It Started at the Washing Machines

Manuel Bessa's first day at Adalberto was at the washing station, cleaning rollers and screens. That was 1998. Since then, he has covered the factory from end to end, sector by sector, day after day. Not with the noise of the machines or the visibility of those who produce. But with the quiet consistency of someone who keeps everything running behind the scenes.

"Day to day, I go through the sectors. I clean what needs cleaning."

It's a simple answer. But in an industrial textile factory, where dust, paste residues, yarn waste, and chemicals are part of the production process, keeping spaces clean and operational is not a minor task. It is a condition for everything else to happen.

The Invisible Work That Shows When It's Gone

Some jobs only become visible when they stop. Industrial cleaning is one of them. When Manuel Bessa went on sick leave, the difference was felt quickly and every day someone was asking where he was.

Not with grand gestures or formal recognition. Just the daily question: “where is he?”.

There is no more direct compliment than that. In a factory with dozens of people and processes running simultaneously, being the absence that gets noticed is a form of acknowledgement that no job title can replace.

"The floor gets very dirty. With a broom I raise a lot of dust . I keep thinking about what I could use to make less of it."

This is how Manuel Bessa talks about his work, without romanticism, without exaggeration. He knows the limits of the tools he has, thinks about how to do better, and comes back the next day to try again.
